A Theme Based Photo Blog

Week 52 #A6 Sunset

It is hard to believe this is my last post for the 2015-2016 Weekly Themed Photo Challenge.  The themes have been fun and challenging this year and I am looking forward to beginning the next 2016-2017 Challenge the first week in August.

For my final post I chose the sunset theme to highlight another shot using my crystal ball,  hopefully I will get a chance to use it again soon!

Week 51 # 32 Nighttime

One final post from the River Cruise my husband and I enjoyed last fall.  We were fortunate to stay in Budapest several days before the Cruise started allowing us multiple opportunities to explore the city on our own and with arranged tours.  The final night in Budapest after eating dinner we took a short cruise up and down the river to see several of the historic buildings lit up at night.   My favorite, and one of the most photographed buildings for advertising River Cruises, is the Parliament Building on the left bank of the Danube. The building was designed in a neo-Gothic style in the late 1800’s and completed in 1902.  Nearly 1000 people were involved with its construction, during which 40 million bricks, one half million precious stones and 88 lb. of gold were used.  The building is 879 feet long and 404 feet wide.  Its interior includes 10 courtyards, 13 elevators, 27 gates, 29 staircases and over 691 rooms, including more than 200 offices!  Its height is 315 feet making it one of the tallest buildings in Budapest.  Its an impressive building to see during the day but at night it looks so magical.

Week 50 #40 Rusty

Back in Germany for this weeks post. We spent one of our days from our River Cruise exploring Regensburg on the banks of the Danube. Regensburg’s rich history dates back to the 2nd century. The city is unique in the fact it has never suffered serious destruction throughout its lifetime.  There are at least 1300 buildings listed of historic interest. Finding your way through out the older part of the city you encounter narrow paths and lanes leading you between the old buildings.  On one of the pathways I found a large rusty chain, padlock included, hanging on a stone wall. Obviously unused for sometime, it had collected quite a bit of rust.

Week 49 #A4 Patriotism

With July 4th next week, this photo seemed fitting to share for this weeks blog post.  Cruising down the Danube shortly after leaving Austria and entering Germany we spent some time up on deck enjoying the scenery and beautiful day.  One of the last things I expected to see speed by was a barge with the American flag flying in all its glory.  Obviously this American wanted to display his patriotism a long way from home.
